Ethnic Minority Training Project (EMTP)
The Ethnic Minority Training Project (EMTP) was formally established in June 2000 and was registered as a charity in August 2001.  The establishment of a formal organisation was a culmination of ten years of voluntary work (1991- 2001), in the prisons and on the streets, with offenders, and individuals at risk of offending.
In this period we established a working model to facilitate the rehabilitation of offenders; peer group mentoring enabling our clients to address and their overcome offending behaviour and develop a sustainable lifestyle. All of our mentors are rehabilitated ex-offenders.
The receipt of European and SRB funding enabled us to develop the model further. Coupled with the mentoring (which helped our clients develop positive aspirations) we are now able to provide a range of direct training and job search support to support the client into employment, vocational training and further/higher education.
The Adult Learning Inspectorate awarded our organisation a grade 1 - “outstanding” - for its Preparation for Life and Work programme in November 2005. Their report stated that:
“the overall effectiveness of the provision is outstanding. Leadership and management and provision in preparation for life and work are outstanding. EMTP’s arrangements for quality improvement are satisfactory and its approach to equality of opportunity are outstanding ” [view report]
On the 12th December 2006, our organisation was named as one of only 18 organisations in the country to be awarded a clean sweep of “outstanding” inspection grades for every aspect of its training by the Adult Learning Inspectorate
